Ima Robot + The Sounds @ The Fillmore = awesome!

Sunday night I saw The Sounds and Ima Robot play at the Fillmore, with Tommie Sunshine DJing. The Fillmore is an awesome venue and the bands were both incredibly awesome.

Ima Robot, despite being the opening act, were the best band of the night. They were sexy, crazy, danceable (yet clever) madness. The lead singer is out of his mind which makes for a really awesome performance. Watching him is like continually watching someone lose it while holding it all together. He oft. sounds like David Bowie, which is pretty fucking cool.



The Sounds put on an amazing performance, complete with outfit changes, music fucking, stage diving, cigarete flicking, lighter-waving, and synth pad pounding. That last part was one of the best things. The two hottest guys from the band go to the center of the stage and each one begins pounding their own synth pad. It sounded awesome and looked awesome and really pounded energy into the crowd. Maja (the lead singer, pronounced "Mya", thanks to my superior googling skills), was simply incredible. She's extremely sexy and gritty, with platinum blonde hair that is partially shaved on the side that totally expresses her hardcore sexywoman whos tougher-than-your-boyfriend-ness. I simply love her and, if reincarnation is possible, I would like to be reincarnated as her.

Final Analysis: So after the show I finally went home and listened to these bands' CDs. The Sounds, I'm dissappointed to say, are at least 15x better live. Whoever produced their record didn't really bring the noise and grit into the album that the band has live. Ima Robot, on the other hand, are awesome both live and recorded. Different experiences of course, but (almost) equally as great (because live music has so much energy, and because you dont get to get AS sweaty when you're just dancing in your room by yourself). They're my new obsession, my new dance partner, my new boyfriend.
